So, I am trying to figure out if i should spend $250ish cad for a kit which includes everything. I bought it 2 weeks ago for $440 bucks, took the top timing cover off, and have found the tensioner to be bad. Lo and behold, the day after he brought it back it was making a grinding noise, so he parked it. He had his t-belt changed at an independent mechanic, who only changed the belts. I regretfully sold my eclipse 6 months ago, but just picked up an 06 lancer ralliart my friend bought 2 years ago and left parked in his moms yard. But in any event all is guaranteed so if something breaks it will fixed under the guarantee. ![]() I guess in the next three years from now, I'll see if it was a good deal or not. It would save me a shit ton of money to go with the Gates belt and have him install it, but I'm worried that if something serious goes wrong with the belt or even his work on install it, something big could go wrong and it won't be covered.ĮDIT: Just looked up the part on CarQuest which linked me to this page. I want to go with the Gates kit and have him install it because of the rave reviews from everybody on the forums, but if the part fails and eats my valves, technically he isn't responsible. He mentioned that if I wanted to purchase the parts, he would install them but he is not responsible for them breaking and only that he can only guarantee his work won't fail, and not the part. I told him I was looking at another timing belt kit I would like him to put into the vehicle. The mechanic believes in his parts, but if shit does hit the fan, he's going to fix it. I asked if something happens with any of the components in the system if I go with his kit purchased and he said "If something goes wrong, I'll make it right. I let him know I was interested in using the Gates belt kit and he told me that his work will be covered but not the part (warranty that the bolts aren't going to come undone but can't guarantee the parts aren't going to break). I got in contact with my mechanic and he said he would be using the Car Quest Timing Belt Kit. for this I got a grounded to pieces timing and balance shaft belt and a valve rebuild job on the head so make sure you buy some gates stuff.Īs for upgrades maybe a Underdrive pulley from RRE which would help for the car to rev and move faster by that’s optional. I would definitely advice do not buy eBay cheap kits buy some quality parts. Balance shaft belt has a mark too as well as the camshaft. There’s four corners it would comeback to so you gotta make sure it comes to the top left corner where mark is. you have to turn it side to side and see where it comes back to in the middle. Oil pump needs to be turned until the needle is on the mark but there’s a catch. ![]() ![]() The first time I did it I was slightly scared but ended up doing it right. I would recommend also getting a new serpentine belt and the serpentine idler pulley since you’re gonna take all that off as well. Takes about 3-5 hours to take off put on and timing. I bought my kit of Water pump, tensioner, idler, balance shaft tensioner, balance shaft belt and timing belt for like $165 plus shipping on Rock auto. I just did my timing belt change and definitely went with Gates which is actually one of the best brands out there.
